Ten Daily Commitments To Be A Godly Father
1. The daily commitment to pray. [Phil.4:13,19]
2. The daily commitment to control of the Holy Spirit. [Eph.5:18]
3. The daily commitment to the study of God's Word. [2Tim.2:15]
4. The daily commitment of devotion to your wife. [Eph.5:25]
5. The daily commitment of fatherhood to your children. [Eph.6:1]
6. The daily commitment to purity in thought and deed. [Phil.4:8,9]
7. The daily commitment to separate from the world. [Rom.12:1,2]
8. The daily commitment to be a soul winning witness. [2 Cor.5:20]
9. The daily commitment to be a faithful representative of the local
church by testimony and faithful attendance [Heb.10:24,25].
10. The daily commitment to be the head of his home. But I would have
you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the
woman is the man . . . [1 Cor 11:3].
Dad, being the head does not mean that the only thing you do around
the house is control the TV remote. Being the head of the home means
Responsibility.
And, beyond that, providing Spiritual Leadership (it's difficult for
a woman to follow "a parked car"). And above all else, being
the head means to practice the kind of Love that Christ gives the church
[Eph.5:25].
God said of one father: For I know him, that he will command his children
and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD,
to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that
which he hath spoken of him (Gen 18:19).
Did Adam and Eve have an "ideal"
marriage?
Some would say yes! Adam didn't have to hear about all the others guys
she could have married . . . and Eve didn't have to hear about the way
his mother could cook his favorite meal.
"Words" of Communication
Husband to wife: "Here is a study that proves women talk more than
men. It states that men use on average only 15,000 words a day, whereas
women use 30,000 words a day."
Wife: "That's probably correct, and the answer is obvious. Women
use twice as many words because they have to repeat everything they
say to men." Husband: "What did you say?"
A Christian's Testimony Before the World
William Jennings Bryan was an active Christian and avid anti-evolutionist
who helped prosecute the Scopes trial in Dayton, TN in 1925. He was
also Secretary of State under Woodrow Wilson. As Secretary of State
it was his responsibility to propose a toast to Admiral Togo who had
won a major victory over the Russians during the Russo-Japanese War.
However, Bryan refused to drink any kind of alcoholic beverage and some
were fearful of a political storm if he insulted the Admiral. When Bryan
rose to make his toast, he said, "Admiral Togo has won a great
victory on the water, and I will therefore toast him in water. When
Admiral Togo wins a victory on champagne, I will toast him in champagne."
Wit and humor saved the day and a Christian stayed true to his principles.
"And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this
day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served
that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites,
in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, ye will serve
the Lord."
Joshua 24:15
