Using The Word Of God, The Mature Christian Is Adequate To Counsel

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
(2 Timothy 3:16, 17)

The inspired Scriptures enables the born again Christian who is mature in spiritual growth (perfect) to be throughly furnished, that is, adequate and equipped for every good work. Conveyed here is the concept of complete adequacy, that the Scriptures not only makes the Christian adequate for his own life and living, but entirely equips him unto all … not just some, but. all good works in ministry to others!

God’s written Word is totally sufficient to advise others in all issues of life. Simply stated, scriptural counseling is counseling that is wholly scriptural. The Christian is to use the Scriptures as the sole guide for self, for sinners, for saints. In so doing the man / woman of God must refuse the mix of man’s psychological theories with God’s truth! We must acknowledge the Scriptures as the only source of divine authority, and therefore, judge all matters of life and death by the principles of the Word of God.

With the above in mind, here’s an approach to each person:

- The Bible (biblical text) always knows more than you know!

Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
2 Tim 3:7

- Don’t be influenced by an "intellectual" who is invariably headstrong, rebellious, arrogant, and in the name of "freedom:"

… He sacrifices serenity for true intelligence.

… He sacrifices integrity for supposed power to choose

It should be noted that God severely condemns such a rebel who turns others from the Word of Truth: … because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. (Deut 13:10) Don’t jeopardize your future by questioning the adequacy of God’s Word. (Rev.22:18,19)

I believe the Bible is the Word of God!

I believe the Bible when it says an axe head swam (2 Kings 6).

I believe the Bible when it says a female donkey spoke to Balaam (Num.22:27).

I believe the Bible when it says Jonah was swallowed by the great fish.

I believe the Bible when it says Jesus, then Peter, walked on water (Mat.14:29).

I believe the Bible when it says 3000 were saved on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:41).

I believe the Bible when it says you will get saved if you come His way!

John 14:6 Jesus saith … I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

God’s written Word preserved for us today is totally sufficient for all issues of life!
